My name is Melanie Totty Cagle and I am seeking your support and vote for the Hickman County General Sessions Judge for 2014. I have nearly 16 years of service as an attorney in Hickman County, the community where I was born and raised. Hickman County is where I have the privilege to live with my husband, Skip Cagle, and am raising my children, Madison and Caleb.
I have a thorough understanding of all the aspects of this position.
The Hickman County General Sessions Judge duties include:
- Misdemeanor crimes;
- Civil trials under the amount of $25,000;
- Landlord and Tenant Law;
- Orders of Protections;
- Paternity matters;
- Child support matters including enforcement;
- Custody and Visitation issues;
- Grandparent Visitation;
- Juvenile Crime;
- Dependency and Neglect Cases; and
- Traffic Offenses.
In the past 16 years, I have been a civil and criminal attorney, a Child Support Prosecutor for the State of Tennessee, as well as a Public Defender for the 21st Judicial District. I am a certified child advocacy trainer and participate in child advocacy training each year to sharpen my skills in Juvenile Court.My goal is to be a judge for all the citizens of Hickman County. To be TOUGH but FAIR. Everyone deserves a Judge that respects each person that enters the courtroom and to assist him or her within the bounds of the law. I seek to be a knowledgeable, fair and a hard working judge for Hickman County.
